ABOUT

Kiki and Zuki brings a beautiful blend of shadow puppetry, performance and storytelling to kids and families.

Kiki, a dreamer from the Moon, and Zuki, a curious Earthling, embark on a journey of friendship, understanding, connection and resilience.

Kiki and Zuki was inspired by the artists’ personal migrant experience of navigating two cultures in Australia. As artists, they have always been fascinated by the challenges understanding new cultures while staying true to their own. Shadow puppetry allows them to explore these themes in a visually and emotionally captivating way.

Book in to view a performance by artists Taka Takiguchi and Youbi Lee, or a workshop to make a shadow puppet with the artists.

My kids absolutely loved the shapes of Kiki and Zuki! A few weeks later, they even drew them from memory, which truly amazed me. I was surprised by how much shadow puppetry sparked their creativity— Thank you!

As an immigrant myself, I couldn’t hold back my tears, even though I wasn’t sure why I was crying. It was a really touching work, and I recommend it to all migrant parents too (not only for kids).

...I loved their simple hands-on session at the end for children, encouraging gentle play while an abstract story was recited. They attracted a transfixed audience of all ages, and it was such a delight to be on the opposite side of the screen for a change.....This was an elegant, subtle, engaging and exquisitely timed performance, carried by a sensitively composed soundtrack.
