ABOUT

Kiki and Zuki is a captivating blend of shadow puppetry and theatre for children and families. Kiki, a dreamer from the Moon, and Zuki, a curious Earthling, embark on a journey of friendship, understanding, connection and resilience.

Inspired by the artists’ own migrant journey of navigating life in Australia while being in two cultures, the tale follows a creature from the moon, Kiki, and the earthling, Zuki, who use different ways of communication. Through a blend of shadow puppetry and performative storytelling, Kiki and Zuki weave together a tapestry of emotions and experiences.

Watch the magical 30-minutes performance by Taka Takiguchi and Youbi Lee, then after the show, take part in some interactive shadow play with pre-made puppets!

Showing as part of The Creativerse - where art, tech and play collide. Bendigo's new children's festival. Free and ticketed shows for children aged 3- 12 years.

My kids absolutely loved the shapes of Kiki and Zuki! A few weeks later, they even drew them from memory, which truly amazed me. I was surprised by how much shadow puppetry sparked their creativity— Thank you!

As an immigrant myself, I couldn’t hold back my tears, even though I wasn’t sure why I was crying. It was a really touching work, and I recommend it to all migrant parents too (not only for kids).

...I loved their simple hands-on session at the end for children, encouraging gentle play while an abstract story was recited. They attracted a transfixed audience of all ages, and it was such a delight to be on the opposite side of the screen for a change.....This was an elegant, subtle, engaging and exquisitely timed performance, carried by a sensitively composed soundtrack.
